LuxSol Pergolas: Your Guide to Measuring Your Space

At LuxSol, we believe that a well-placed pergola can transform your outdoor space into a versatile haven for relaxation and entertainment. Whether you’re looking to create a shaded area next to your home or a freestanding oasis in your garden, getting the right measurements is crucial for a perfect fit.

Here’s our guide to help you measure your space accurately and ensure your pergola installation goes smoothly.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Achieving the perfect fit for your pergola begins with selecting its placement. Our pergolas are designed to be freestanding or can be placed next to your house or a wall. LuxSol pergola height is designed to clear standard external doors effortlessly. Thinking about putting it over bi-folds? A brilliant choice that not only enhances your outdoor space but also reduces heat transfer and glare. Let the good times begin with the perfect pergola placement!

Refer to our handy measuring guides for step-by-step instructions to consider. We recommend taking all measurements in centimetres.

Adjacent to Your House

When placing your pergola next to your house, ensure you capture all necessary dimensions:

  • From the top of your doors to the patio or decking base: Measure the height from the top of your external doors down to the patio or decking surface.
  • Wall space between the top of your doors and the soffit (if applicable): Measure the vertical space available between the top of your doors and the soffit.
  • Width of any external door: Measure the width of the door you plan to cover.
  • From the patio base to the underside of soffit (if applicable): Measure the height from the base of your patio to the soffit.
  • From the patio base to the underside of the gutter (if applicable): Measure from the patio base to the gutter if it overhangs your intended pergola area.
  • Width of your patio or decking: Measure the full width of the space where the pergola will be installed.
  • Length of your patio or decking: Measure the full length of the space.
  • Note the direction your garden faces: Knowing the orientation helps in configuring your pergola to optimise sunlight and shade.

Freestanding in Your Garden

For freestanding pergolas, focus on the available space in your garden:

  • Width of your patio or decking: Measure the full width of the area where the pergola will stand.
  • Length of your patio or decking: Measure the full length of the area.
  • Note the direction your garden faces: Understanding the garden's orientation ensures your pergola provides optimal sunlight and shade.

Which Direction Does Your Garden Face?

Whether your pergola will be adjacent to your house or freestanding, it’s crucial to note which direction your garden faces. This will determine the best configuration for placing your pergola and the opening direction of the roof louvres, ensuring you get maximum sunlight and shade when required.

Additional Tips:

  • Porcelain Flags: If your patio is made of porcelain flags, remember they may require specific drill bits for installation.
  • Decking: If installing on decking, be aware that alternative fixings might be needed, as the ones provided are designed for stone flags or concrete.
